Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet neighborhood that is located on the West Island, which is part of the Montreal island. People who don't understand the name mistakenly believe that it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay was not long in the city. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa the city of Ontario. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, However, following a dramatic increase in size, her friends could no longer dance with her. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 feet 1 inch tall. When I grew out of male companions, that's when I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In Brugel's case it was a suggestion from the drama instructor at her high school which led her in the right direction. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out as Anne in their annual school production. She auditioned and eventually got the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on the big and small screens drawing the most attention when she landed the character as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
